Location and Brief Info


Drogarati Cave is located near the village of Chaliotata, about 26 km from Argostoli. The cave was discovered 300 years ago and is estimated to be around 150 million years old. It is one of the most impressive caves in Greece, with stunning stalactites and stalagmites. It first opened to the public in 1963.

Getting There from Argostoli Town

The easiest way to get to Drogarati Cave is by car or taxi. It takes about 40 minutes to drive from Argostoli town. There is also a bus that runs from the town to Sami, which stops near the cave.

 Entrance Fee and Visiting Hours


To explore the wonders of Drogarati Cave, there is an affordable entrance fee. The ticket grants you access to this underground paradise, and visiting hours typically run from 9:30 AM to 4:00 PM.  It is open all week long. There’s a 10 euros combo ticket if you also want to visit the nearby Melissani Cave Lake.

Safety Measures

The cave is safe to visit, but visitors should wear comfortable shoes as there are a number of cement stairs to climb. The stairs can be slippery, so it's important to take your time and watch your step. Just take into consideration that you will have to climb the stairs back up again!

Temperature Inside


As you venture deeper into the cave, you'll be greeted by a pleasantly cool and refreshing temperature. The temperature inside the cave is around 18°C (64°F) all year round. We suppose this natural air conditioning provides a welcome relief from the warm Greek sun, during the scorching summer months!

Capacity and Acoustic Wonders

Drogarati Cave has a capacity of up to 500 people and is known for its great acoustics. In the past, it has been used as a venue for concerts and other events. Rumour has it that Maria Callas was so impressed that she decided to give a concert inside!
