The cathedral is located in the heart of Milan, Italy, and covers an area of 109,641 square feet (10,186 square meters).

 

Construction of the Duomo di Milano began in 1386 and was completed nearly six centuries later, in 1965.

 

The Duomo di Milano is 515 feet (157 meters) long, 302 feet (92 meters) wide at the transept, and 226 feet (69 meters) high at the top of the spire.

 

The cathedral is made of Candoglia marble, which is a pinkish-white stone quarried from the nearby Alps.

 

The Duomo di Milano has 3,400 statues, 135 gargoyles, and 700 figures adorning its façade and interior.

 

The cathedral has 52 massive pillars, each of which is 76 feet (23 meters) tall and weighs 70 tons.

 

The main spire of the Duomo di Milano is topped by a golden statue of the Virgin Mary, which is 13.7 feet (4.16 meters) tall and weighs 4,620 pounds (2,100 kilograms).

 

The cathedral's roof is adorned with 135 spires and 3,900 statues.

 

The Duomo di Milano can accommodate up to 40,000 people at a time.

 

Throughout its long history, the Milan Cathedral has played an important role in the cultural and religious life of Milan. It has been the site of numerous important events, including the coronation of Napoleon as King of Italy in 1805. Today, the cathedral remains an important symbol of Milan, and a popular tourist destination. It is estimated that over five million people visit the cathedral each year, making it one of the most popular attractions in Italy.
