Landing: A Smooth Touchdown Experience

As your plane touches down at Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport, you'll be greeted by modern facilities and a bustling atmosphere. Named after the inventor of the jet engine, this airport serves as the primary international gateway to Romania. From here, your journey into the heart of Romania begins.
Situated approximately 16 kilometers north of Bucharest's city center, Henri Coandă International Airport plays a crucial role in connecting Romania to major European and international destinations.
Its strategic location makes it a hub for both business and leisure travel, contributing to the economic and touristic development of the region.
The airport was originally named Otopeni Airport after the town of Otopeni, where it is located, and it officially opened in 1965.
Initially serving as a military airfield, Otopeni Airport underwent expansions to accommodate civilian air traffic as well.

Baggage Claim - Taxi Area: Seamless Arrival Process

In 1997, the airport was renamed Henri Coandă International Airport in honor of Henri Coandă, a Romanian inventor, aerodynamics pioneer, and builder of an experimental jet aircraft, the Coandă-1910.

This transition marked the airport's increased focus on international flights and its growing importance as Romania's primary international gateway.
Navigating through the airport is a breeze as you head to the Baggage Claim and Taxi Area. Discover the efficiency of Henri Coandă Airport's baggage handling system, ensuring a seamless transition from the plane to your chosen mode of transportation.

Over the years, Henri Coandă International Airport has undergone significant modernisation and expansion efforts to meet the demands of increasing air traffic.

As you exit the airport you can either take a taxi or walk across the train station that will transfer you to the city centre and The Northern Railway Station - Gara de Nord In about 20 minutes.
The train station’s entrance is just across this area. You can purchase your train ticket inside the train and even pay by card.

Have in mind that in this area they accept both euros and the local currency. As you can see, the labels display the prices in euros anyway.
Whether you're a seasoned traveler or embarking on your first journey to Romania, Bucharest Henri Coandă Airport provides a welcoming and efficient entry point. To The Gates: Navigating Your Way to Departure

As you make your way to the departure gates, soak in the contemporary design and efficient layout of Henri Coandă Airport. Clear signage and helpful staff ensure a smooth transition, allowing you to board your flight with ease.
The airport continues to evolve, with ongoing plans for further expansion and improvements to meet the growing demands of air travel.
Upon traversing the security gates at Bucharest Airport, your next checkpoint awaits at the passport control, an essential step before embarking on your journey. This process, following the security clearance, is pivotal for international travelers. The duration of this procedure may vary, particularly during peak hours when the airport experiences higher traffic. Passport control at Bucharest Airport is conducted by either airport agents or through automated gates, offering passengers a choice in their passage experience. Opting for the automated gates involves scanning both your boarding ticket and passport, followed by another feature: the machine adapts to your height, ensuring a precise scan before granting access. This modernized approach streamlines the process, contributing to a more efficient and technology-driven airport experience for travelers. We did find the automated gates to be faster than the queue for human agents.
