Getting There

Getting to the Acropolis is relatively easy as it's located in the heart of Athens. You can take public transportation like the metro, bus or tram. The closest metro station is the Acropolis station, which is just a short walk away. You walk just about 150 meters to the south entrance. Alternatively, you can take a taxi or walk from the city center.

Entrance Tickets

To enter the Acropolis, you'll need to purchase a ticket. The ticket costs €20 per adult and is valid for one day. The good news is that the ticket also includes admission to other archaeological sites in Athens, including the Ancient Agora, Roman Agora, and Hadrian's Library. If you're a student or a senior, you can get a discounted ticket for €10. There is an option for e-tickets, skip-the-line or guided tours.

Guided Tours

To make the most out of your visit, we recommend taking a guided tour. You can either join a group tour or hire a private guide. A tour guide will provide you with insightful information about the history and significance of the Acropolis and other sites in Athens. You can also book a guided tour online in advance to save time and avoid the long queues.

Best Time to Visit

The best time to visit the Acropolis is in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the crowds and the heat of the day. During the summer months, it can get quite hot, so make sure to wear comfortable shoes, and a hat and bring plenty of water with you. The Acropolis is usually open from 08:00 in the morning until 18:00 or 20:00 depending on the season. There is an elevator only for people with diminished abilities but you need to contact the site in advance.

What to Expect

Once you enter the Acropolis, you'll be greeted by stunning ancient ruins, including the Parthenon, the Propylaea, and the Erechtheion. The site is also home to several sculptures and artefacts from ancient Greece. We recommend taking your time to explore the different areas and to enjoy the breathtaking views of Athens from the top.

Etiquette and Respect

When visiting the Acropolis, it's important to show respect for the site and its history. Please do not touch or climb on any of the ancient ruins or sculptures, as they are delicate and easily damaged. Additionally, dress modestly and refrain from smoking or littering in the area.
