The Manchester Metrolink is a light rail system that serves the Greater Manchester area in North West England.

The system opened in 1992 and has since grown to become one of the largest light rail networks in the UK, with 7 lines and over 90 stations.

The Metrolink operates trams that run on tracks embedded in the road, sharing space with other traffic.

The system is owned by Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) and operated by KeolisAmey Metrolink (KAM), a joint venture between Keolis and Amey.

The Metrolink has a fleet of over 140 trams that run on overhead power lines, with the newer trams being 100% low-floor for easier access for passengers.

The network spans over 150 km and is the most extensive light rail system in the United Kingdom.

The Metrolink has 2 types of ticketing: paper tickets and contactless smartcards called "get me there".

The system has won several awards for its services, including the Light Rail Award for "Operator of the Year" in 2011 and the Global Light Rail Award for "Best Customer Initiative" in 2019.

The Metrolink is expanding with new lines and extensions being built, including the Trafford Park Line and the Manchester Airport Line.
