Karytaina is a traditional village in mountainous Peloponnese, at 580 m.

 

The castle on the hill is built on the ruins of ancient Vrenthes.

 

The distance is 208 Km from Athens, via Olympia Odos. (includes tolls)

 

The community has a population of about 270.

 

The village was once a tobacco, silk and wine shopping centre.

 

Theodoros Kolokotronis liberated the village on March 27 1821.

 

You must visit the 16th century Zodochos Pigi Church,

 

“Toledo of Greece” is how famous writer N. Kazantzakis called Karytaina.
